Life renews itself in the spring: plants push up from the ground, buds burst into bloom. Have you ever considered a ‘spring cleaning’ for your body? Spring inspires us to get outside more and the more active we are, the more energy we need!
Detoxification provides just that: increased energy. The idea of a detox can also conjure up some very scary concepts of over the top detox programs that can actually aggravate the body (not to mention your mood).
Start pulling yourself out of the winter grog with your diet first. If you think you need more talk to your ND for some gentle ways to promote your detoxification pathways in a natural and healthy way.
Here are three tips and a spring detox recipe collection to start you off:
- Quell the coffee!
Replace your coffee and hot chocolate with more pure water – room temperature or warm. Add a squeeze of lemon, slice of ginger or turmeric to improve its detox/anti-inflammatory properties. - Get moving!
Walking, working out, yoga, swimming are your best bets. Movement mobilizes the lymphatic system like nothing else! Begin with a schedule of three times per week and work your way up to 6. - Think green!
Steamed, sautéed, stir fried, in soups, smoothies and snacks. Green foods tend to have a naturally bitter quality that stimulates liver function. Plan something green with every meal.
